A Gantt chart is a horizontal bar chart which can help you to track the projects in project management applications, with this type of chart, you can see the priorities of the tasks and the estimated completion of the project at a glance. But, create a Gantt chart may need a complex of steps in Excel, this article, I will introduce an easy tool-Kutools for Excel’ Gantt Chart, with this feature, you can quickly create a Gantt chart with only several clicks.

Create a Gantt chart based on start date and end date in Excel

If you have a task list with start date and end date as below screenshot shown, to create a Gantt chart, please do with the following steps:

1. Click Kutools > Charts > Point in TimeGantt Chart, see screenshot:

2. In the Gantt Chart dialog box, please do the following operations:

  • Select the range of cells that contains the task names from the Task Name box;
  • And then, choose the list of start date cells under the Start Date/Time box;
  • At last, select End Date/Time option, and select the end date cells from the data table.

3. Then, Click Ok button, a prompt box will pop out to remind you a hidden sheet will be created as well, see screenshot:

4. Click Yes button, a Gantt chart will be created immediately based on the start and end date, see screenshot:

Create a Gantt chart based on start date and duration in Excel

Sometimes, you have a range of data which include the start date and duration, you can also apply this feature.

1. Click Kutools > Charts > Point in TimeGantt Chart to apply this feature, and in the Gantt Chart dialog box, do the following operations:

  • Select the range of cells that contains the task names from the Task Name box;
  • And then, choose the list of start date cells under the Start Date/Time box;
  • At last, select Duration option, and select the duration cells from the data table.

2. Then, click Ok button, a prompt box will pop out to remind you a hidden sheet will be created as well, see screenshot:

3. Click Yes button, a Gantt chart will be created at once based on the start date and duration, see screenshot:

Note: In the first time you apply the Gantt Chart feature, you can click the Example button in Gantt Chart dialog box to open a new workbook with the sample data and sample Gantt Chart to know how it works.
